Capsule shell is an egg-shaped hollow shell these shells are typically made from gelatin, hypromellose (HPMC, a plant-based derivative), or other suitable materials that ensure stability, safety, and ease of ingestion. The capsule shell has good bioavailability and dissolves quickly, reliably and safely. Characteristic:

(1) Gelatin Capsule

Gelatin has a wide range of uses in pharmaceuticals and is used as the material of choice for making capsules, mainly because it is relatively easy to make. However, gelatin also has certain problems and disadvantages.

Gelatin is obtained by denaturation of collagen. As an amphoteric substance, gelatin can react with acids and bases. In addition, gelatin capsules also undergo cross-linking reactions, which further reduces the solubility of the capsule shell and the dissolution rate of the active drug inside the capsule.

Gelatin capsule shell is mainly composed of gelatin, plasticizer and sunshade agent.

(2) HPMC Capsule

The capsule is made from Pullulan.

Pullulan polysaccharide has excellent film forming properties, is non-toxic and harmless, and can be completely biodegradable in the human digestive tract.

Its most special properties are: compared with other polymer membranes, Pullulan polysaccharide has low permeability, and oxygen, carbon dioxide and other gases are almost impenetrable.

In the pharmaceutical industry, 20% Pullulan can be used instead of animal gum to produce capsules.

Capsule Size:

Capsules are available in standard sizes ranging from 000# to 5#. The most common size is #0.
