THE DEVELOPMENT TREND OF GELATIN
Gelatin is a protein with unique physical,chemical properties and biocompatibility. It is widely used in medicine, food, photography, industry and other industries.Gelatin products are divided into medical gelatin, edible gelatin, and industrial gelatin according to their uses.
Among the main application areas of gelatin, edible gelatin accounts for the highest proportion, reaching about 48.3%, followed by medicinal gelatin, with a proportion of about 34.5%.The proportion of industrial gelatin consumption has been declining, accounting for about 17.2% of the total gelatin consumption.
In 2017, the total production capacity of China's gelatin reached 95,000 tons, and the total annual output reached 81,000 tons. With the development of domestic medicine, capsule, food, health care products, and cosmetics industries, the demand of gelatin continues to grow. According to Chinese customs data,China's total imports of gelatin and its derivatives reached 5,300 tons, exports reached 17,000 tons, and net exports reached 11,700 tons in 2017. Accordingly, the apparent consumption of China's gelatin market in 2017 reached 69,400 tons, an increase of 8,200 tons compared with 2016.
At present, the growth rate of medicinal gelatin is the highest. It is expected that the industry growth rate in the future is still expected to reach more than 10%, followed by food gelatin, which is expected to reach about 3%. While our country's economy is still in a period of rapid development, it is expected that the demand for medical gelatin will maintain a growth rate of 15% in the next 5-10 years, and the growth rate of edible gelatin will reach more than 10%. Therefore, we expect that medical gelatin and high-grade edible gelatin will be the focus of the domestic gelatin industry in the future.
Since last year, due to the impact of the covid-19, gelatin, as an important pharmaceutical raw material, has a huge increase in demand in the international market.
According to relevant EU regulations, animal-derived gelatin production and processing companies need to pass EU registration to enter the EU market. Many domestic gelatin enterprises can not export to EU market because of the registration until now. Gelatin enterprises should learn about the latest EU requirements for the registration of gelatin export,strengthen raw material source management and control the production process to ensure that products meet EU standards.
