REASONS FOR CHINA’S RESTRICTIONS ON ELECTRICITY USE
Many places in northeast China are rationing electricity. Customer service of State Grid: Non-residents will be rationed only if there is still a gap.
Coal prices run high, power coal shortage, northeast China's electricity supply and demand tension. Since September 23, many places in northeast China have issued notices of power rationing, saying that power rationing may continue if the power shortage does not ease.
When contacted on September 26, the customer service staff of The State Grid said that non-residents in northeast China had been ordered to use electricity in an orderly manner, but the power shortage still existed after the implementation, so the power rationing measures were taken for residents. Priority will be given to the resumption of residential electricity supply when the power supply shortage eases, but the timing is unknown.
Shenyang power cuts caused traffic lights in some streets to fail, causing congestion.
Why does Northeast China restrict residential electricity use?
In fact, power rationing is not limited to northeast China. Since the beginning of this year, due to the impact of coal prices rose sharply and continued high operation, domestic electricity supply and demand is facing a tight situation. But in some southern provinces, power rationing is only happening to some factories so far, so why should households in the North-East be restricted?
A power grid worker in northeast China said that most substations and power plants are for civilian use, which is different from the situation in south China, as there are relatively few industrial types and quantities in northeast China as a whole.
A customer service worker at the State Grid confirmed this, saying that the restrictions were imposed mainly because non-residents in northeast China had been first ordered to use electricity, but there was still a power gap after the implementation, and the entire grid was in danger of collapse. In order not to expand the scope of power failure, resulting in a large area of power failure, the measures were taken to restrict electricity to residents. She said the priority will be to restore electricity supply to households when the power supply shortage eases.
